Announcing the Hayward Municipal Band’s 60th Season
2016 marks the 60th consecutive year that the Hayward Municipal Band has performed in Memorial Park, 24176 Mission Blvd., Hayward (behind the Hayward Plunge).
Tony Morelli was the conductor of the band for 38 years. His daughter, Kathy Maier, who had been the assistant conductor, became the conductor after his sudden death in February 1998.
The bandstand, which Tony Morelli designed, is named in his honor. Kathy conducts just like her father, and she has maintained the superior level of performance with excellent musicians. Many have been with the band for years. One gentleman recently retired after 58 years and both his sons continue in the clarinet section.
Everyone is welcome at all Hayward Municipal Band concerts. Friends and families can bring a picnic lunch and relax, listen and enjoy Classical, Popular, Big Band, Jazz, Musicals, Latin music, and more.
The band’s 2016 season begins on Sunday, June 19th at 2:30 p.m. and continues each Sunday through July 17th. Each week the program for the upcoming concert is posted on this website.
The concerts are presented by the City of Hayward and the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District.
