Honoring Frank Reis

Frank Reis, clarinetist with the Hayward Municipal Band, was honored at last Sunday's concert. Reis is retiring from the band after 57 years in the clarinet section. (In fact, he has spent every Father's Day for more than half a century on the bandstand in Memorial Park.) Reis, whose two sons also play clarinet in the band, was given a certificate by Hayward Mayor Michael Sweeney and a plaque from director Kathy Maier and the band. He also led the band in its final number of the day, The Stars and Stripes Forever. Some pictures of the event:

A look back at last season

In his "Test Driving Life" blog, automotive writer and bass player Steve Schaefer shared a lively post about attending a Hayward Municipal Band concert last season. A brief quote:
What could be better than a fine summer afternoon spent hearing live music in the park--for free? The Hayward (California) Municipal Band has been delivering the goods since 1957!
Please be sure to check out the entire post here. And Steve, we hope to see you on the lawn again in 2013!
